The Tudor period is often portrayed as a series of elegant gowns and sparkling jewelry, with sumptuously dressed women moving around in grand rooms flirting with handsome men. The reality, of course, was very different.
What was life really like for Tudor women? Join us for this virtual lecture with Carol Ann Lloyd for a peek into these women's lives!
For most Tudor women, life revolved around family, church, learning, hard work, and the hope of finding a way to improve their prospects. In a time when women were considered to be less than men in every way, this was true across the social spectrum. We know very little of the lives of most women living outside of London, but we can catch glimpses of them if their families encounter nobility or come to court.
A few remarkable women left records of lives that give us a fascinating vision of life in Tudor England. We'll use this as a window into their experiences.
